Sri Lanka is a land gifted with so many natural wonders. This small paradise has lots of waterfalls, magnificent views of mountain classes blended with thick mist and golden beaches with shining sand.

Sinharaja Rain forest is one of the treasures in srilanka which has a large bio diversity making the forest an living university for all nature researchers .Having lots of native species including birds , reptiles ,butterflies this became a favourite place for any visitor who comes for Sri Lanka.

2009 CSE department trip we got this amazing opportunity to visit Sinharaja ,This is my second time but i never feel as i have visited proving how diversity it contains.

We climbed the rock called Mulawella which is around 760 m height(as i remeber). It was an unforgettable scenario to view the forest from a higher place like that.

install Ubuntu in an External Drive.

3:15 AM , , 1 Comments

I found this is cool simply because anyone who only has a laptop or a main desktop usually hesitate to do experiments on their OS.Even though you are willing to do that it sometimes becomes a headache if you have dual boot with windows..U can experience ubuntu with a live CD but once you take da CD off all the changes vanish.

So here is a simple solution..

I started to create a USB start up disk using my imation nano 4 Gb pen drive which is sufficient to install new ubuntu 8.10.

actually there are few possible things which make normal installing fail to boot..

1)by default initrd(initial ram disk) file that ubuntu uses does not contain all of the drivers you need to boot from a removable drive.

2)sometimes initrd can have the appropriate drivers, but it takes few seconds for the kernel to boot and so during this time(while loading and detecting drivers)system might boot.So you have to give extra waiting time.

3)In the grub menu your internal hard disk(not the external one )which has a OS already probably enter it as the first hard disk but at the booting time it will configure it as the first hard drive.......

ultimately it might confuse the GRUB....!!

these are the possible problems which might cause errors...!!

But i did not get any of this problems when i install it in to the USB....:)

here are the steps

1.insert the live CD in to your CD rom and follow normal procedure until it gives the option to select the disk partitioning

2.then select the your external drive (it will probably pick anyInternal IDE or SCSI drive currently on the system, you can choose your drive by selecting SCSI drive that system has detected.the line will probably refer to a disk called "SCSI (0,0,0)".If you have a SCSI in the system the chances are the last drive on your system.

Be careful and select the correct drive as installer formats ur disk and erase all the data.!!!!

3.in the advance option in next dialog box use your external drive name to install the GRUB.it might be /dev/sdb or a similar name....

then continue........!!!

and then change your boot order in the advance option in boot menu of your computer.

set 1 st priority as your external drive( if your PC does not support USB booting then you have to find another one which supports that feature:(

so if you are lucky enough you will c your grub is loading when system is restarted....!!!
and then ubuntu will be starting......!!!!

if by chance you fail consider the above factors i mentioned.......!

anyway even this small thing can be headache so ubuntu comes with this option available already.
You can select and simply build up a usb start up disk using that.

here is a good link to follow the steps.

A new window to look at the world….

10:24 PM , 0 Comments

We are living in an amazing world filled with lots of opportunities and inspiring ideas. But how many of us realized that they were covered with a thick layer of dark ideas. The deeper we excavate the best comes out that is the reality underneath, though most of the people don’t care about it.

You may wonder where I am directing your ideas. But I would like to open a new window of your room and invite you to see a different scene which is already there but you have not seen yet. But it is totally up to you to decide whether you are going to see the sky filled with clouds or mountains get blurred with thick mist.

How many times have you complained about unhappiness or depression in yourself? Have you ever spent couple of minutes thinking about root causes of those? The most of the times unhappiness is generated because of an external thing.

Why are we unhappy? The simple reason is we are not getting everything what we expect.

The secret of being miserable is to have the leisure to bother about it George Bernard Show said.

Just think for a while how many thing are we expecting from outside world and can you remember how many of them were fulfilled? You might see a strong negative relationship between happiness and expectations set on external world.

So the point I want to emphasis is that the true happiness lies within yourself. So start discovering yourself and spend some more time for yourself as it is the most of the individuals just neglect. If you can find any source of happiness inside yourself it would be eternal as long as your heart pounds. It will change its shape with time but it will never leave you.

For an instance if you can remember a place that you have been and experienced ,which is filled with fragrances of flowers while cool breeze coming from far away mountains hugging you just Nuwareliya or a similar place bounded by lots of lovable memories,

That can anchor your ship of thoughts with inspirations that would fuel you to lead a happy life. This is a simple example to illustrate my idea but it is highly relative to each one of us. But simple key logic working here is to make sure that source of happiness is lying within yourself and capable of utilizing it whenever needed. So you can simply become the master of your happiness not a slave.

So start from now itself. The hardest part comes from discovering of yourself. Be honest to yourself and strive to find out what are the things that make you happy most. But make sure it is freely available to you to use it whenever needed. Most of the  inventors did not do their experiments to become famous, most of the writers did not write their books to sell their books in millions. What they needed was their happiness by doing what they are mostly passionate about. That is why they got enough confidence to continue their work without shaking even almost all the world began to suspect about their success.

So the new window that I opened is with you. So as I mentioned earlier it is up to you how you grab the things that are out of window. So build a model that suits yourself to achieve success and happiness.

Happy the man happy he alone,

He, who can call today his own:

He who, secure within can say:

‘Tomorrow, do thy worst:

For I have lived today’.
